VLADIVOSTOK: A Russian woman biker, famed for her saucy Instagram photos while doing stunts on her sports bike, was killed after crashing on a highway.
According to Russian police, Olga Pronina, 40, died after her bike went off the road and crashed into a guard railing.
Pronina, who went by the monicker "Monika9422" on Instagram, had attracted over 168,0000 online fans with her dangerous exploits, oftentimes wearing skimpy clothes while riding her BMW S1000RR sports bike at high speed. Her Instagram account was filled with photos and videos of what she did on her bike.
Media reports said the tragedy took place on July 31 here, and tyre marks on the road suggested Pronina was speeding when the horrific crash happened. The impact was so great her motorcycle broke into two. She was thrown off her bike and died before emergency rescuers arrived at the scene.
Friends described the hairdresser-turned-Instagram star as an adrenaline junkie who loved riding at high-speed. She leaves behind a 16-year-old daughter.
The tragedy is the latest to be blamed on users obsessed by social media.
A week earlier, a teenage driver in Fresno, California, was accused of causing a crash that killed her younger sister while livestreaming on Instagram.
Obdulia Sanchez, 18, lost control of the car which overturned and killed her 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline.
She remains in police custody and could face more than 13 years in prison if convicted on six felony counts.
Pronina had worked as a hairdresser.
