PETALING JAYA: The price of petrol will go up in the month of July by up to 20 sen per litre, but the price of diesel remains unchanged.

The price of RON95 petrol will increase by 10 sen to RM2.15 per litre while RON97 petrol will increase by 20 sen to RM2.55 per litre, which includes Goods and Service Tax, according to the Petron Petrol Dealers Association president Datuk Alang Zari Ishak.

The price of diesel will stay the same at RM2.05 per litre.

"We have received word of an increase effective midnight," he said Tuesday night.

Asked to comment on the increase, Alang Zari said; "We do not know if there will be a rush to the petrol station due to the fasting month, otherwise drivers will surely be rushing to the petrol station".

Fuel prices in June as announced by the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry saw an increase of 10 sen for both RON95 petrol and diesel to RM2.05 per litre while the price of RON97 petrol went up by 10 sen to RM2.35 per litre.

Earlier Tuesday, Minister Datuk Seri Hasan Malek said they would no longer make monthly announcements of fuel prices.

"We have decided to stop the practice of announcing the prices on the last day of the month.

"From now, motorists will only know the prices at midnight," he was reported as saying.
