PENANG: During the Penang Bike Week 2014, Michelin launched its latest City Pro tyre that’s specially designed for intensive urban use by 150cc motorcycles and big-wheeled scooters.

It is currently available in 21 sizes ranging from 14 to 18-inche wheels with speed ratings from ‘P’ (up to 150kph) to ‘S’ (up to 180kph).

The new tyre features a combination of three reinforced protection plies in the tyre crown, a new specifically developed rubber compound mixture and a new tread pattern for better grip in both dry and wet conditions.

It boasts of unprecedented robustness having increased its puncture resistance by 20% and durability by 10% over its closest competitor.

According to marketing director of Two Wheels Asia Varit Pakdeeyingyong, the new Michelin City Pro tyre had already underwent a 444,000km test.

The test was held in Bangkok city and the tyre was fitted to 48 motorcycles.

It was found that only one puncture was recorded for every 100,000km covered with an average mileage of 20,000km per set of tyres.

“The new MICHELIN City Pro tyre has an outstanding mileage performance and thanks to its exceptional robustness, the tyre maintenance budget of your motorcycle will be reduced,” said Varit.
