KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 2,012 traffic offenders were slapped with warrants of arrest since Ops Warta was launched nationwide on May 19.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said on Wednesday that police were confident of arresting traffic offenders who had yet to pay their summonses.

"The operation has entered phase two and we not only mount roadblocks but also visit their office or work place.

"If they are still stubborn, we will continue with Ops Warta," he told a press conference after a hospital programme to mark 208th Police Day celebration here.

Of the total 1.59 million warrants of arrest issued, only 50,000 traffic summonses had been paid.

Khalid said a total of 9,836 traffic offenders surrendered themselves after warrants of arrest were issued for them.
