SHAH ALAM: DRB-HICOM Commercial Vehicles, the exclusive distributor of Tata Motors commercial vehicles in Malaysia, has handed over 553 units of the Thai-assembled Tata Xenon pick-up trucks to Pos Malaysia.

The pick-up will now be Pos Malaysia's spearhead in its logistics business for its courier, express and parcel pick-up and delivery services with a specially fabricated and customised box body by Oriental Summit Industries.

A five-speed gearbox will manage the pick-up's 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine producing 140Ps at 4,000rpm and 320Nm of torque from 1,700 to 2,700rpm and has an extended service interval of 15,000km.

It also comes with a reverse camera with the ability to support a heavier load capacity and easier for access from the rear and both sides for loading and unloading as per Pos Malaysia’s requirements.

The project commenced in November 2015, when the company decided to lease the pick-ups through DRB-HICOM EZ-Drive leasing facilities for a period of 36 months, with an option to renew for another 24 months.

"The facilities provide an alternative to commercial operators as they can now choose to lease vehicles over outright purchase. Vehicle leasing would provide commercial operators with the best cost-of-ownership, lower fleet management cost as the maintenance and service needs of the vehicle are taken care of by EZ-Drive, the local licensee of AVIS," said DRB-HICOM COO of automotive distribution and defence Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah.

To date, Pos Malaysia has a fleet size of 9,602 vehicles comprising of lorries, panel vans, Pos-On-Wheels (POW), four-wheel drive (4WD) and motorcycles.
