On-the-road prices (without insurance) are from RM152,800 (Corolla GR Sport), from RM147,800 (Corolla 1.8G) and from RM139,800 (Corolla 1.8E).
In a statement, UMWT said the new Corolla GR Sport is aimed at those who want a sporty sedan for everyday driving.
The Corolla GR Sport has exclusive styling features which give it a more aggressive appearance than the Corolla 1.8G and 1.8E .
At the front, the mesh-patterned radiator grille is raised while the lower section is wider black. There is also a front underbody protector installed, visually lowering the stance of the car.
Unlike the other variants, the auto-retractable door mirrors of the Corolla GR Sport have a black finish.
The Corolla GR Sport comes with larger 18-inch alloy wheels with an exclusive design and a Machine/Dark Gray Metallic finish.
Larger and wider 225/40R18 tyres are fitted for extra grip and steering feel. A temporary spare wheel is provided.
For the Corolla GR Sport, three exterior colours are available: Red Mica Metallic, Platinum White Pearl MC and Attitude Black.
Drawing on the expertise of Toyota Gazoo Racing, the high performance and motorsport division of Toyota, the Corolla GR Sport has been given sharper handling.
Specific tuning was done for the shock absorbers, rear coil springs and stabilizers.
The tuning, carried out with extensive track testing, has reduced roll, pitch and bouncing for smoother suspension movement.
Responsiveness is enhanced while straightline stability is said to be better.
The interior of the Corolla GR Sport has a black theme. The body-hugging seats (with an improved design) have red stitching with red side shoulder covers and red highlights on the door trim.
The GR Sport emblem is also stitched on the head restraints of the front seats (and can also be found on the rear bootlid).
Meanwhile, the improved Toyota Corolla 1.8G and 1.8E get a new body colour choice, namely Metal Stream ME as well as new designs for the lightweight alloy wheels, and a new lower front grille in glossy black.
On the mesh-like grille, polyhedral dots create an "active" expression.
For better environment-friendliness, Toyota Super Olefin Polymer (TSOP) is used for the grille, hook cover, foglamp moulding, and bumper. TSOP is a highly recyclable thermoplastic resin with high surface quality and high rigidity.
The front seats have a revised design for improved comfort. Black combination leather upholstery with perforation is standard for the Corolla 1.8G while the driver’s seat has 8-way power adjustment with adjustable lumbar support.
The improved Corolla 1.8G and GR Sport also come with a 12.3-inch fully digital colour display.
The USB power port in the console box has been upgraded to Type C as well.
A minor enhancement is the addition of a clip to the wireless charging pad to secure smartphones.
For added convenience, the Smart Entry system has been added to the front passenger door as well.
To reduce engine noise, especially resonance, the intake system has received minor revisions where resonance-suppressors are installed in ducts, inside the air cleaner and air cleaner hoses.
Both the Corolla GR-Sport and 1.8G variant get a Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) which is useful when reversing.
If there is a vehicle approaching from either side at speeds of up to 30 km/h, the driver will be alerted.
