KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) has appointed Erik Winter as its new managing director with immediate effect, replacing Alin Tapalaga, who is returning to Europe, citing "health reasons".

Winter will oversee the company’s Brand and Human Resource operations.

No stranger to the automotive retail scene, Winter brings with him the experience and expertise garnered from 16 years serving under Porsche Holding Salzburg’s (PHS) numerous business units around the globe.

Previously based in China, where he was responsible for the retail operations of one of the brands represented by PHS, Winter and Florian Steiner, VPCM managing director for Aftersales, Information Technology and Finance, will focus on strategies to boost Volkswagen market share, dealer network and aftersales.
