All-electric BYD Atto 2 launched from RM100,000


KUALA LUMPUR: BYD Sime Motors, the official distributor of the brand in Malaysia, has officially launched the compact all-electric Atto 2 sports utility vehicle (SUV) priced at RM100,000 on the road without insurance.

Offered as a single variant, the Atto 2 comes with a black interior and is available in three colours of Ski White, Harbour Grey and Breeze Green.

For peace of mind, a standard six-year or 150,000km warranty is provided along with an 8-year or 150,000km coverage for the drive unit and an eight-year or 160,000km for the high-voltage Blade Battery.

Additionally, there's also a three-year or 60,000km warranty for the multimedia system, shock absorbers, dust cover, bush or gasket, wheel bearing AC/DC charging port assembly, USB charging port connector and the PM2.5 measuring instrument.

A four-year or 100,000km is also thrown in for the Atto 2's "Whole vehicle lights", tyre-pressure monitoring module, suspension and ball-joint.

Meanwhile, a standard service package is provided and this includes a reducer oil service, air-conditioning filter service, brake fluid service, drive motor coolant service and an air conditioning refrigerant service.

As an optional extra, the Plus service will add in tyre alignment, balancing and rotation as well as replacement for the windscreen washer fluid, wiper blades, remote control battery, 12V battery, brake pads and brake discs.

For the first 800 early adopters, the Atto 2 is being accompanied by a string of goodies worth RM13,000.

This includes a six-month free instalment (exclusive with Sime Motors panel bank) and a free wall-charger for landed property owners.

For high-rise property owners, the Atto 2 provides a one-year subscription to the Sime Platinum 4+ by Power Up, which includes four door-to-door charging services per month, two car washes per month (for selected areas only) and two EV rescue service per year.

With a 2,620mm wheelbase, the Atto measures 4,310mm in length, 1,830mm in height and 1,675mm in height - allowing for a 400-litre boot that's expandable to 1,340 litres with the 60:40 rear seats folded down.

Under the front hood is an electric motor powering the front wheels with 130kW and 290Nm of torque via a 51.13kWh BYD Blade Battery.

This allows the Atto 2 to not only sprint from 0 to 100kph in 7.9 seconds and also travel up to 410km (NEDC).

The battery is able to accept up to 7kW from an AC charger or 82kW for a faster DC charger while also having a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) function.

Featuring all round disc brakes, wheels are 17-inch alloys with 215/60 series tyres while the suspension uses front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam.

Externally, the Atto 2 gets equipped with automatic wipers, power-adjustable and retractable external mirrors and LEDs for the front headlights, day-time runners, rear light clusters and light bar.

Inside, it's a blacked-out occasion for a more cosy feel that comes with faux leather upholstery, a multi-function steering wheel, a gear-selector stalk on the right, four-way (six for driver) powered front seats with ventilation, wireless charger, and an auto-dimming rear view mirror.

This allows the colours from the 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.8-inch infotainment system to pop - the latter powering the eight-speaker sound system and according Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (both wireless) via Bluetooth connectivity.

For added convenience, there are four USB ports, a single rear aircon vent, keyless-entry with push-start button, a Bluetooth key, one-touch power windows with anti-pinch function, portable car key, BYD digital key, mono-zone climate controls and a PM2.5 cabin air filter.

Standard safety features include six airbags, anti-lock braking system, electric parking brake, electronic stability control, traction control, electronic brakeforce distribution, hill descent control, brake override system, auto-hold, and a 360-degree camera view.

The Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) add adaptive and intelligent cruise control, intelligent speed limit information, front collision warning, lane departure warning and assist, traffic jam assist, and automatic emergency braking.

Sime Motors managing director Andrew Basham said the company is taking a fresh approach to EV ownership, focusing on accessibility and convenience.

“The BYD Atto 2 is built on innovation and designed to connect with a new generation of Malaysians. But innovation doesn’t stop at the vehicle itself - we’re also rethinking how Malaysians own and enjoy an EV,” he said.

This includes introducing flexible payment options and an industry-first partnership with Power Up, a mobile EV charging service that delivers charging to users’ doorsteps — an option Basham said would benefit high-rise residents in particular.

To support the growing demand, Sime Darby Motors also plans to expand its nationwide BYD outlet network to 60 locations by 2026, working with local partners to strengthen the EV ecosystem.

Meanwhile, BYD Malaysia managing director Eagle Zhao said the Atto 2 is aimed at younger and first-time EV buyers.

“We’ve developed a model that reflects the needs of today’s young drivers. It combines BYD’s technology with trend-forward features suited to modern lifestyles,” said Zhao.

BYD Sime Motors is displaying and conducting test drives of the Atto 2 from July 25 to 27 at Heritage Valley, Kuala Lumpur from 9am to 7pm daily.
