All-electric Toyota C-HR to arrive in Australia mid-2027

SYDNEY: The all-electric Toyota C-HR is due to arrive in Australia in mid-2027, with the stylish compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) to join the bZ4X and bZ4X Touring in Toyota’s BEV (battery-electric vehicle) line-up.

The all-electric C-HR was built from the ground up as a dedicated BEV.

Toyota Australia vice president sales, marketing and franchise operations Sean Hanley said, "The all-electric C-HR will be perfect for customers looking for a stylish urban SUV with high levels of technology and serene yet engaging driving characteristics."

Despite sharing its nameplate with the hybrid C-HR, the all-new C-HR features its own unique architecture, having been built on the same e-TNGA dedicated electric vehicle platform which underpins the larger bZ4X.

Australian examples of the all-electric C-HR will feature a 74.7kWh lithium-ion battery paired with a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor developing 165kW (221hp) of power and 269Nm of torque.

Battery pre-conditioning technology contributes to a targeted DC fast charging time from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes regardless of weather conditions1, along with a targeted driving range of over 500km.

AC charging up to 22kW allows for easy overnight charging at home.

The all-electric C-HR retains the engaging driving characteristics of its hybrid counterpart with a unique suspension and electric power steering tune, which provide an ideal blend of responsiveness and ride comfort.

Four levels of regenerative braking can be set using the steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters to dial in the ideal amount of coasting deceleration, while extensive noise insulating materials have been placed around the cabin to further bolster the inherent quietness of a BEV.

The all-electric C-HR features an evolved exterior design based on the stylish Toyota Hammerhead concept, with a slimmer LED headlight design and multiple aerodynamically enhanced design touches which help reduce drag coefficient to a slippery 0.26Cd.

The larger exterior dimensions and wheelbase of the electric C-HR translate to increased overall interior space, with 900mm of couple distance, generous headroom and 416 litres of overall cargo volume.

All variants will have a 14-inch touchscreen multimedia system offering wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, natural voice recognition, Toyota Connected Services functionality and a full suite of Toyota Safety Sense active safety technologies.
