Auto China 2026: Chery QQ3 draws in crowd, Malaysia launch possibly by 2027

BEIJING: All eyes was on Chery Auto's latest compact electric vehicle (EV) as it stole the spotlight at the brand's exhibition at the Auto China 2026.

The new QQ3 remains quite the charm despite already debuting at last month's Bangkok International Motor Show as it continues to pull in crowds of all kinds of demographic.

More excitingly is that Chery is looking to bring the model into Malaysia by next year.

Timing of its entry depends on how soon their Chery Smart Auto Industrial Park in Lembah Beringin gets up and running, which according to the company is on track with Phase 1 to be ready soon.

No indicative price has been given, though it is anticipated that the QQ3 will be priced sub-RM100,000 and go head-to-head against Proton's e.MAS 5 and TQ Wuling's Bingo.

If we're ranging it against the model's expected pricing in Thailand then we're looking at somewhere between 400,000THB and 500,000THB which brings it to around RM49,000 to RM61,000.

With a 2,700mm wheelbase the QQ3 has slightly larger dimensions over its competitors for it having a height of 1,573mm, a length of 4,195mm and is 1,811mm wide.

The model will house Chery's T12 platform which features a single rear motor, rear-wheel drive (RWD) powertrain.

There will be two performance output depending on the battery. Its 29.48kWh LFP battery delivers 78hp, 90Nm of torque and a CLTC range around 310km.

Its larger 41.28kWh battery with a CLTC range of 420km churns out 122PS and 115Nm.

DC fast charging for both options is said to support up to 85kW and will take the models 16.5 minutes to get the battery from 30% to 80%.

Inside the cabin is a 15.6-inch centre infotainment touchscreen and an 8.8-inch instrument display. Front seats are power-adjustable and features heat and ventilating.

There's also a 50-watt Qi wireless charger while the rear boot offers 375 litres of volume capacity that is accessible through a powered tailgate.

Capacity can be expanded to 1,450 litres with the rear seats folded. There's also a 70 litre frunk and 35 litres of rear under-seat storage.

Safety in the QQ3 is said to be equipped with six airbags and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). There's autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert with auto brake, a front departure alert, a door opening warning, auto high beam, a 360-degree camera system and parking assist.
