SHAH ALAM: BMW Group Malaysia has signed a partnership agreement with the Selangor Technical Development Centre (STDC), to advance Malaysia's technical and vocational education ecosystem through the BMW NextGT programme.
This partnership is set to equip a new generation of automotive technicians with expertise to meet the demands of the automotive industry – particularly within the landscape of electric vehicle (EV) technology.
Automotive technical trainers from STDC will undergo extensive, hands-on training developed under the BMW Technician Qualification Framework.
The programme will immerse participants in comprehensive technical knowledge, with specialised modules including current modern automotive technologies and concepts.

Upon completion, these trainers will deliver this expertise to qualified vocational students enrolled in the BMW NextGT programme, enabling them to graduate with cutting-edge, industry-standard knowledge and skills.
BMW Group Malaysia managing director Benjamin Nagel states, “Our collaboration with STDC through the BMW NextGT programme is built on the foundation of belief that investing in education and technical development is key to shaping the Future of Mobility in Malaysia."
"By empowering trainers and students with the skills and knowledge aligned with BMW’s global standards, we are cultivating the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards the future of the automotive industry here.”
Meanwhile, Selangor Chief Minister Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said, “The BMW NextGT programme reflects Selangor’s commitment to cultivate the next generation of Malaysian talent capable of leading the transition towards a sustainable, future mobility. We sincerely appreciate BMW Group Malaysia’s confidence in nurturing local talent.”

The BMW NextGT programme is scheduled to roll out in 2026, beginning with a collaboration involving Auto Bavaria, Millennium Welt, and Quill Automobiles as initial dealer partners, with plans to extend the initiative to additional BMW dealers from 2027 onwards.
The BMW NextGT initiative is an embodiment of BMW Group Malaysia's commitment to cultivating a top-tier technical workforce well-prepared for the developing automotive industry, building upon the foundations from the BMW Technical Training Programme (BTTP) and BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification programme which are already well established in Malaysia.
Led by the BMW Group Regional Training Centre, the internationally recognised BMW High Voltage Expert (HVE) certification programme has been instrumental in developing Malaysia's EV workforce, equipping technicians with the expertise to service and repair the most advanced BMW i vehicles worldwide.
