Covid-19: Mazda suspends plants in Japan, Mexico and Thailand
By CARSIFU | 26 March 2020HIROSHIMA: Due to issues arising from the Covid-19 pandemic, Mazda will suspend production for 13 days and operate day-time shifts only for eight days at the Hiroshima and Hofu plants from March 28 to April 30.
In a statement, Mazda said it would adjust production at its facilities globally due to the difficulties in procuring parts, the plummeting sales in overseas markets, and the uncertainty of future sales.
For overseas plants, the Mazda production site in Mexico will shut down for 10 days from March 25 onwards, and AutoAlliance (Thailand) Co Ltd will suspend production for a similar period starting from March 30.
Mazda sales operations will continue in certain countries including Japan and China.
Mazda is also adopting infection prevention measures such as teleworking and sterilization at Mazda offices and dealerships.
