KUALA LUMPUR: GWM Malaysia has recorded its strongest-ever first-half performance by delivering 3,166 vehicles in the first six months of 2026.
This was a 42.4% year-on-year increase and secured its position among the top 11 best-selling automotive brands in Malaysia.
The company also outlined a positive outlook for the remainder of 2026, supported by an expanding product portfolio, growing consumer acceptance of hybrid technologies and continued investment in enhancing customer ownership.
Sales momentum had accelerated throughout the first half of the year, increasing from 1,294 units in the first quarter (Q1) to 1,872 units in second quarter (Q2), representing a 44.7% quarter-on-quarter increase.
Growth was driven by strong performances across GWM's diverse portfolio.
The Wey G9 Hi4 PHEV grew from 421 units in Q1 to 707 units in Q2, maintaining its position as Malaysia's top-selling luxury MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) among officially distributed OEM (original equipment manufacturer) brands.
The Haval H6 HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) increased from 656 units to 895 units, remaining GWM Malaysia's highest-volume model.
The Ora Good Cat EV almost doubled quarterly sales, recording 93% quarter-on-quarter growth.
GWM Malaysia managing director of commercial operations Stan Li Hao said, "As we enter the second half of 2026, we remain focused on expanding our product portfolio, strengthening our presence in Malaysia and delivering even greater value to our customers."
Following the strong reception at the Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS) 2026, GWM Malaysia is preparing to introduce the GWM Ora 5 HEV and GWM Haval H7 Hi4 PHEV (plug-in hybrid), while the GWM Tank 300 HEV is expected to continue gaining momentum as more Malaysians embrace hybrid mobility.
GWM Malaysia also welcomed the government's decision to postpone the implementation of PUA 402, allowing consumers to benefit from existing vehicle pricing structures for a longer period.
GWM Malaysia has also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Touch 'n Go Sdn Bhd to deliver smarter and more connected mobility solutions.
As the first initiative under the partnership, every new GWM vehicle booked and registered from August 1, 2026 onwards will come equipped with a pre-installed or bundled Touch 'n Go x GWM Branded RFID tag as standard.
GWM Malaysia chief operating officer Roslan Abdullah said, "Our collaboration with Touch 'n Go reflects that commitment by combining automotive innovation with digital mobility solutions to deliver a more connected, convenient and seamless ownership experience."
Touch ‘n Go Sdn Bhd CEO Praba Sangarajoo added, “We are excited to partner with GWM Malaysia in simplifying the ownership journey.”
The Touch 'n Go x GWM Branded RFID programme is applicable to eligible vehicle registrations in Peninsular Malaysia only.
