Next-gen Nissan Navara debuts in Australia

MELBOURNE: Nissan Oceania recently unveiled the new Navara pick-up, set to raise the bar in the region’s one-tonne segment.

The next-generation Navara is targeted to go on sale at the end of the first quarter of 2026.

"The new Navara represents what Australian drivers need from their pick-up truck in this region," said Nissan Oceania managing director Andrew Humberstone.

"This isn't just evolution – it's built on four decades of Nissan experience, with deep Australian insights and a unique suspension calibration, tuned by Premcar specifically for our arduous conditions."

The new Navara benefits from locally tuned, and tested suspension by Premcar.

"The local suspension development programme represents one of the most comprehensive engineering projects undertaken by Nissan here in Australia," said Humberstone.

"Premcar invested countless man hours, driving the new Navara over 18,000km, testing across every conceivable surface and driving condition – from the Outback's corrugated roads to urban stop-start traffic with heavy loads."

All models of the new Navara range also offer a 3,500kg braked towing capacity.

The new Navara's exterior design draws inspiration from Nissan's rich ute and pickup heritage.

For decades, the V-strut grille has been a hallmark of rugged Nissan utes and SUVs (sport utility vehicles).

Members of Nissan’s global design team travelled to Australia and were inspired by the modified utes they encountered everywhere.

This inspiration led to the bull bar-inspired V-strut shield, establishing a commanding presence at the front.

The three-slot design atop the grille pays tribute to the D21 Navara, while the C-shaped headlamps interlock seamlessly with the grille.

The precision of the headlamp design and signature shapes reflect Nissan’s expression of modern technology.

"When working on the new Navara, we aimed to honour nearly 40 years of heritage while creating something fresh for today’s Australian buyers," said Nissan Motor Corp senior design director
Ken Lee.

The flagship PRO-4X grade showcases unique styling cues that distinguish it as the range-topping Navara.

On the outside, it features a black finish on exterior design elements and ‘Lava red’ accents.

A black sports bar, black 17-inch wheels with 265/65R17 all-terrain tyres and standard towbar complete the look.

In the cabin, there is a standard nine-inch advanced infotainment system features DAB digital radio, Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Additionally, ST-X and PRO-4X grades feature wireless smartphone charging.

A seven-inch colour TFT dash display provides clear vehicle information for the driver.

Besides eight airbags, the new Navara features a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) including:

  • Emergency Lane Assist for critical safety interventions
  • Traffic Sign Recognition for enhanced awareness
  • Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication preventing unintended acceleration
  • LED headlamps and taillights from base grade ensuring superior illumination
  • Lane Departure Warning with Emergency Lane Assist
  • Blind Spot Warning with Lane Change Assist
  • Front and Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • High Beam Assist for optimal visibility management
  • Intelligent Speed Limiter supporting compliance with speed regulations
  • Driver Monitoring System
  • Available Adaptive Cruise Control

All models are powered by a 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine delivering 150kW of power and 470Nm of torque matched to a wide-ratio six-speed automatic transmission.

Fuel consumption figures of 7.7 litres per 100km (combined cycle) demonstrate the engine's efficiency.

Both the driving experience and fuel economy are aided by newly adopted Electric Power Steering (EPS).

The new Navara will be available with a pair of advanced four-wheel-drive systems.

On applicable grades, an ‘Easy 4WD’ system automatically switches between two-wheel drive for highway cruising and four-wheel drive when extra traction is needed.

An electronic rear differential lock is included standard to provide additional traction in demanding off-road scenarios.

Additionally, for ST-X and PRO-4X grades, a new ‘Super 4WD’ system offers full-time high-range mode with an open centre differential.

A Torsen Limited Slip Differential enhances cornering stability by optimising torque distribution.

These grades also feature seven terrain modes — Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock.

Advanced traction management works in conjunction with the locally developed suspension system to provide superior handling and control across all surfaces.

The system continuously monitors wheel slip, steering input, and terrain conditions to deliver power where it's needed most.
