Renault unveils entry-level Symbioz hybrid SUV

PARIS: Renault has introduced the Symbioz, a new entry in its line of family cars, which follows past models like the Renault 16 launched in 1965 and the Espace in the 1980s.

The Symbioz SUV is designed to be compact and versatile, suitable for city driving and equipped with a modular interior that can adapt to various family needs. It features the latest Renault design language and incorporates technology aimed at enhancing comfort and efficiency.

The Symbioz is positioned as a C-segment vehicle, measuring 4.41 metres in length, and is part of Renault’s strategy to expand its E-Tech hybrid and electric range, which includes the Arkana, Austral, Megane, and Scenic models.

This car combines elements like the OpenR Link multimedia system with Google built-in, Solarbay opacifying glass sunroof, and advanced driving aids to ensure safety and driving comfort. It offers a boot capacity up to 624 litres and includes features like a power tailgate and hands-free operation for added convenience.

Technologically, the Symbioz is equipped with the E-Tech hybrid 145 powertrain. The series-parallel hybrid architecture combines two electric motors, a 36 kW e-motor and an 18 kW HSG (High-voltage Starter Generator) with a 94 bhp 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an intelligent multi-mode clutchless dog box and a 1.2 kWh battery.

The gearbox has four gears for the petrol engine and two gears for the main electric motor. The E-Tech hybrid 145 powertrain combines operation of the combustion engine and electric motor in up to 14 different ways for optimised fuel efficiency.

The vehicle also features continuous optimisation of its powertrain for improved fuel consumption and comfort, especially on highways.

The Symbioz has an estimated fuel consumption of 4.6 litres/100km.
