Toyota Corolla Cross compact SUV launched in Thailand
By THOMAS HUONG | 09 July 2020BANGKOK: The new Toyota Corolla Cross compact SUV had its global premiere in Thailand today, where sales has started.
The Corolla Cross was developed with the "Corolla Meets SUV" key phrase in mind, and the compact SUV is larger (Length: Width: Height: Wheelbase - 4,460mm / 1,825mm / 1,620mm / 2,640mm) than the Honda Jazz-based HR-V rival (4,334mm / 1,772mm / 1,605mm / 2,610mm).
The Corolla Cross uses the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) platform (GA-C) which helps to provide a comfortable ride, and outstanding quietness.
The 1.8-litre 5-seater, front wheel drive Corolla Cross is offered in two powertrains.
One is a hybrid petrol powertrain, mated to an electric continuously variable transmission (CVT), which has a total system output of 122ps.
Another is the petrol powertrain, with an Super CVT-i, that produces 140ps and 177Nm of torque.
A new torsion-beam suspension results in a stable, cushioned ride while a class-leading minimum turning radius of 5.2 meters results in responsive handling.
The Corolla Cross also offers a class-leading 487 litres of luggage space when carrying the puncture repair kit, and 440 litres with a temporary spare tyre.
Fuel efficiency is rated at 4.3 litres per 100km (hybrid) and 6.5 litres per 100km (petrol only) under the NEDC (New European Driving Cycle).
The Hybrid High grade variant in Thailand comes with the Toyota Safety Sense suite of driver's assistance systems.
Both the Hybrid High and Mid grade variants also get Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
