Toyota GR Yaris H2 gets Thai attention
By THOMAS HUONG | 19 December 2022Buri Ram, Thailand: The hydrogen powered Toyota GR Yaris H2 on display at last weekend's (December 16 to 18, 2022) Idemitsu 1500 Super Endurance race at the Chang International Circuit.
The hydrogen-powered GR Yaris has the same G16E-GTS, 1.6-litre, in-line 3-cylinder, turbocharged engine that is found in the award-winning GR Yaris, but with a modified fuel supply and injection system for use with hydrogen as fuel.
Just a few months ago, the GR Yaris H2 had completed a demonstration run during the ninth round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) in Ypres, Belgium.
The rally was the first time for Toyota to drive an under-development hydrogen-engine vehicle on public roads outside Japan.
Behind the wheel of the GR Yaris H2 in Belgium was Toyota president Akio Toyoda, a.k.a. "Morizo", and his co-driver was former Finnish driver and four-time WRC champion Juha Kankkunen, who once won a world title with Toyota.
