Zeekr X and MGS5: 5-Star Asean NCAP ratings


KAJANG: The all-electric Zeekr X and MGS5 both recently achieved five-star Asean NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme for Southeast Asian Countries) ratings.

In a statement, Asean NCAP said the Zeekr X compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) delivered an outstanding performance in the assessment, with an overall score of 94.64 points.

The Zeekr X obtained the score based on the four assessed categories comprising the Adult Occupant Protection (AOP) category with 40 points, the Child Occupant Protection (COP) category
with 17.14 points, the Safety Assist (SA) category with 20 points, and 17.50 points for the Motorcyclist Safety (MS) category.


The Zeekr X offers standard features of seven airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Seatbelt Reminder System (SBR) for both front and rear seat occupants, rear seat occupant detection, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and ISOFIX for child seats across all its variants.

Furthermore, the Zeekr X offers technologies dedicated for motorcyclist safety namely AEB for Motorcycle, Blind Spot Detection (BSD) on both sides of the vehicle, Automatic High Beam (AHB) and Pedestrian Protection (PP) as standard equipment in all its variants.



Not to be outdone, the MGS5 five-seater SUV also delivered an outstanding performance, with a total score of 92.39 points.

The breakdown of the scores was 37.90 points for the AOP category, 16.99 points for the COP category, 20 points for the SA category, and 17.50 points for the MS category.

The MGS5 is equipped with at least six airbags, ESC, ABS, SBR for both frontal occupant seats, rear occupant detection, AEB City, AEB Inter-Urban, AEB Pedestrian, AEB for Motorcycle, BSD for both sides of the vehicle, AHB, PP and ISOFIX for child safety seat as standard fitment across all its variants.

Technologies such as LDW, FCW, and LKA are also available as standard equipment in all MGS5 variants.

In comparison, the Thailand market includes six standard airbags, the Malaysia and Singapore markets offer seven, with an additional centre airbag.



"We are proud that both Chinese automotive brand SUV models delivered an impressive performance. We applaud the proactive measures taken by both brands to equip their models with crucial vehicle safety technologies," said Asean NCAP.

The current Asean NCAP 2021–2025 assessment protocol encompasses four assessment domains, with AOP accounting for 40 points of the overall score, and COP, SA, and MS each contributing 20 points.

This year, 2025, marks the final year of the 2021–2025 assessment protocol.

Assessment under the 2026–2030 protocol will commence in January 2026.
