MUNICH: It is best known for modifying Porsches, but now car tuner Ruf is set to release a model of its own.

The Ruf CTR 2017, a small-scale super-sporty production model, is the first car to be entirely designed and built by the German manufacturer. Its prototype debuted at the recent International Motor Show in Geneva.

The Ruf CTR has many of the features of a Porsche 911, including the rear spoiler. Beneath the cars light carbon fibre shell, there is nothing but pure race car technology.

The bulk of the chassis is made of carbon fibre monocoque, with other parts, including the integrated roll-over protection system, made of high-strength steel.

The suspension is based on classic Formula One technology, featuring a double-wishbone system with springs and dampers.

Rufs 3.6-litre twin-turbo flat engine delivers 710 horsepower and a top speed of over 360 kilometres per hour. The vehicle also has rear-wheel drive and six-speed manual transmission.

Weighing a minimum of 1,200 kilograms, the two-seater can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 3.5 seconds and, according to the manufacturer, to 200 km/h in just nine seconds. When needed, perforated and internally ventilated ceramic brake discs help bring the speedster back down to earth.

The new limited release model is also a homage to the first Ruf CTR sports car, known as the "Yellow Bird," which set a speed record of 339.8 km/h in 1987.

Since then, a new CTR has followed roughly every 10 years. The new version will cost just under US$1mil, with 30 models to be built starting next year.
