PETALING JAYA: The Customs Department has seized 75 e-bikes smuggled into the country via a shipping container.
Customs Department deputy director general (enforcement/compliance) Datuk Johari Alifiah told reporters today that the bikes were seized during a raid in Port Klang on July 17.
"The container had been declared as "electric vehicle" in its import manifest.
"The value of the bikes was estimated at RM112,500 while its duty and taxes were valued at RM45,000," he said at the Customs Complex in Kelana Jaya here.
He said the bikes were brought in without the required permits from the International Trade and Industry Ministry.
He also said that the department was tracking down the importer and custom agent involved.
