NEW YORK: Subaru of America, Inc. today announced the all-new 2022 WRX will debut at the New York International Auto Show on Aug 19.

Design cues are likely to come from the latest Levorg wagon. As is the trend now, the WRX will get a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with an 11.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system.

What we also know of the new WRX is that it would come packing a tuned version of the turbocharged 2.4-litre flat-4 used in the three-row Ascent SUV. That mill makes 260hp and 376Nm of torque, which is 8hp less and 26Nm more than the current 2.0-litre turbo-4 seen in the current WRX.

Subaru is expected to junk the ageing turbocharged 2.5-litre flat-4 found in the current WRX STI. In its place could be an uprated version of the 2.4-litre flat-4 that wuld be boosted to 400hp and 489Nm.

Expect the new WRX to feature all-wheel drive and a 6-speed manual gearbox. A variant with CVT is also likely to be offered.

The auto manufacturer will be streaming the world premiere of the completely redesigned 2022 WRX live.
