LOS ANGELES: A Chinese company with ambitions to break into the US market will be showing off its first product - the Qiantu K50, an electric supercar.

The car will be revealed at the April 17-28 New York International Auto Show.

Production of the car has been outsourced to a new California outfit called Mullen Technologies, which has been assigned the job to homologate, assemble and sell the vehicle in North America. Deliveries of first orders is expected to be in 2020.

The K50 is Qiantu’s flagship model and combines a 296kW/402hp engine mounted on an all-aluminum frame with an aerodynamic carbon fibre design that combines lighter weight and a stronger downforce for optimal performance and handling.

The sculpted carbon-fiber body adds a futuristic element and is available in six colours.

The car is still a work in progress. Additional K50s are arriving at Mullen R&D centre, where diagnostic and battery testing as well as homologation process will begin.

Qiantu is a subsidiary of CH-Auto Technology Corporation Ltd. Beijing-based CH-Auto was set up in 2003 and it designs, develops, manufactures, and sells conventional vehicles, new energy vehicles and military vehicles.
