Croatian joins Women's World Car of the Year

LONDON: The automotive industry is a men's world. And it's refreshing to know that women are making some headway at different levels of management.

The car awards realm has also seen participation from women. An example is the Women's World Car of the Year, which pitches itself as the only car awards group in the world comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists.

It was created by New Zealand motoring journalist, Sandy Myhre, in 2009. She is currently honorary president, while Marta García performs as executive president of the London-based organisation.

The aim of this unique award is to recognise the best cars of the year and to give voice to women in the automotive world.

The voting criteria is based on the same principles that guide any driver when choosing a car. The selections are not "woman’s car" because such categories do not exist.

Aspects such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits and environmental footprint, among others, are taken into account when casting the votes.

The car awards group today announced that Croatian Ines Brežnjak (pic)  has joined the team. With Brežnjak's appointment, WWCOTY now reaches 41 countries.

Brežnjak is a journalist at Net.hr, one of the biggest news portals in Croatia, which belongs to the RTL group.

It is also the first in Croatia to form a special section within the automotive section, called Women's Corner, where Brežnjak introduces car tests exclusively from a women's perspective in the form of both video and writing.

“Every new car that I test is a new challenge and this is actually why I love my job so much and why I enjoy doing it," said Brežnjak.

Croatia is a country where cars with petrol engines are still the most sought after. Recent trends show that people are interested in electric cars. Their demand has grown since the state gave incentives to EV buyers and the number of electric vehicles in 2021 has doubled from the year before.
