DRB-Hicom university gearing up to meet demand for auto manpower

KUALA LUMPUR: DRB-Hicom University of Automotive Malaysia is gearing up to meet the demand for manpower in the automotive sector which will require some 700,000 workers in the next two years.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Sr Dr Omar Osman said in a statement today that the university also wanted to work with counterparts in Indonesia, Thailand, Bangladesh, China and India to cater to the regional job market.

Dr Omar said the entire supply chain in the automotive industry is expected to grow such as service centres, manufacturing operations and after-sales-services .

New growth areas the university could tailor courses for are motorsports, health and safety, he added.

At present, its most popular course is automotive service technology.

Omar said the university was prepared to supply workers who could service hybrid and electric cars.
