PARIS: DS Automobiles, the once premium arm of Citroen, has revealed more details of its new upcoming DS 4 that's been earmarked to go on sale in 2021.

Touted to be a vehicle that combines French luxury expertise and augmented technology - all encapsulated within a new design, the DS 4 is being built on a new version of the EMP2 platform.

This is in line with the company's directive for all its vehicles to become either fully electric or hybrid by 2025.

The platform is said to support a variety of powertrains and gives the DS 4 an optimised interior space for improved driving comfort while also meeting the latest impact standards.

It sees the use of composites, hot-pressed structural parts and more compact elements - including the air conditioning unit to help free up more storage space elsewhere.

The platform is able to use the latest technological solutions including an entirely new suspension and steering components.

For propulsion, it will use a 180hp four-cylinder combustion engine paired with a 110hp electric motor for a combined system output of 225hp and the ability to travel up to 48km in zero-emissions mode.

Comfort and convenience of the DS 4 will be taken care of by a heads-up display, new DS Iris System infotainment system with voice and gesture housed within an 8.0-inch touch

For safety, DS Automobiles promises of Level-2 semi-autonomous driving technology - DS Drive Assist 2.0, which is the highest level that’s allowed on the road at the moment.

DS Drive Assist 2.0 is based around the extensive use of sensor technology, including front radar technology and sensors placed at each corner of the car, while a camera is positioned at the top of the windscreen.

This helps the vehicle position itself between lanes, conduct semi-autonomous overtakes and use artificial intelligence to slow the vehicle down when cornering and even adjust to speed limit changes by reading road signs.

Another innovative feature is a camera positioned that scans the road surface ahead to allow the car to automatically adjust the suspension and damping accordingly - all in the name of comfort and dynamism.

Bolstering safety is an infrared camera located in the grille that helps to spot pedestrians and animals up to 200m beyond the headlight scope at night and in poor light conditions and an image of what the camera sees is displayed to driver via a digital instrument display.

Lighting the way ahead will be a slim pair of automatic LED headlights with Dynamic Bending Light technology and daytime running lights that use up to 98 LEDs.

The headlights will be able to "look" to where the driver turns to and adapt to traffic conditions via its five pre-sets of  Town, Country, Motorway, Poor Weather and Fog.
