PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has extended its e-bidding system (JPJeBid) up north to Penang, starting with the PPC vehicle number series.

JPJ director-general Datuk Seri Shaharuddin Khalid said the PPC number series would be the eighth to use the JPJeBid system, and Penang would be the latest state to join Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Kedah in utilising the e-bidding setup.

“Bidding for the 'PPC' series will be opened for five days, beginning Aug 2 at midnight, until Aug 6 at 11.59pm, ” said Shaharuddin at a press conference here today.

JPJ has set the minimum starting bid for a normal number is RM300, with a minimum 10% or RM15 increase for every bid.

Shaharuddin said JPJ had collected close to RM10mil in revenue since the launch of its e-bidding system last April.

This was from seven-vehicle licence plate series, namely FC, VDN, VDP, VDQ, VDR, VDS and KET.

“In total, the JPJeBid system has contributed RM9, 603, 568 to the government coffers from seven-plate number series since April this year.

“Also, compared to the past system, 100% of the money from the winning bid goes directly into the government’s accounts, through credit card or debit card deduction, as soon as a winner is identified, ” said Shaharuddin.

Shaharuddin also said JPJeBid is a more transparent system which eliminates integrity issues, as there was no human interference.

“There is no human interference in selecting the winning bid.

"The bidder will only deals with the computer, and if there are any errors, it is only between him and the computer.

“Once the bidding closes at midnight, the winner would be known at 12.01am, ” said Shaharuddin, adding that bidders will also be able to see the ranking of bids in real time.
