KUALA LUMPUR: Three Nissan models sold in Malaysia produced from 2002 to 2007 are being recalled over the infamous Takata airbag problem.

Local Nissan distributor Edaran Tan Chong Motor Sdn Bhd (ETCM) said the affected cars were the X-Trail (sold in 2002 to 2007), Teana (2004) and Liberty (2003).

ETCM started the recalls from June after confirming that a total of 12,444 Nissan cars in Malaysia could have the flawed airbag inflator on the front front passenger side.

All labour and replacement parts will be offered at no charge to affected car owners.

The X-Trail launched in Malaysia in January 2015, as well as other current selling Nissan models are not affected by this exercise.
