MARANELLO: Ferrari's latest stunner is the F8 Tributo, which the company is hailing as the fastest-ever V8-powered sports car to wear the Prancing Horse badge.

Official photographs released ahead of the Geneva Car Show show the sleek replacement for the current 488 GTB in all its bright red glory.

The F8 Tributo is a rear-engined supercar which Ferrari is using to pay homage to its long heritage. The new model will be unveiled at the Geneva event.

Ferrari has not said what the F8 Tributo will cost to buy, but as with most exotic machinery, if you have to ask the price, you probably can't afford one.

The F8 Tributo comes with massive power on demand, thanks to a 3.9-litre, turbocharged engine which has been tweaked to turn out 720hp — more than any previous Ferrari V8. Dry weight has been cut by 40kg.

Wild performance is guaranteed and the F8 Tributo can leap from a standing start to 100kph in just 2.9 seconds. The 200kph benchmark comes up 5.8 seconds later before the supercar tops out at 340kph.

The V8 motor is a Ferrari stalwart that has taken the "Best Engine" accolade in the International Engine of the Year awards for three years running — in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

The styling is exquisite, with a shark front end and twin rounded rear lights as a nod to tradition. The state-of-the-art aerodynamic solutions are straight from the track.

The cabin evokes the classic Ferrari mid-engine Berlinettas of yore and includes a brand-new fascia around a 8.5-inch touchscreen. The seats feature red stripes, and there are new round vents and a fresh steering wheel.
