Fewer vehicles sold in November

KUALA LUMPUR: Vehicle sales volume fell 2.4% to 52,584 units in November from 53,870 units in October and the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) expects sales to be flat in December.

The MAA said on Thursday the November sales were however higher by 8.9% from 48,282 units a year ago “due to year-end promotional campaigns”.

Of the 52,584 units sold in November, the MAA said 47,754 were passenger cars and the remaining 4,830 were commercial vehicles.

Production for November declined to 46,517 units compared with 50,304 units a year ago.

The MAA said total industry vehicles (TIV) for January-November this year was flattish at 549,445 units compared with 550,410 unit in the previous corresponding period.

As for production for vehicles in January-November, it rose to 528,333 units from 522,571 units in the previous corresponding period.

On the sales outlook for December, it expected the volume to be maintained at the November level.

“Continuation of aggressive year-end promotional campaigns especially by a number of players which have their financial year ending Dec 31, ” the MAA said.
