KUALA LUMPUR: Honda Malaysia is extending its recall to replace the Takata passenger front airbag inflator to 24,962 units of the 2012 Year model vehicles.

It said today the models involved in this recall are Accord (2012 year model), Jazz (2012 YM), Jazz Hybrid (2012 YM), City (2012 YM), Freed (2012 YM) and Insight (2012 YM).

Honda Malaysia said it initiated the precautionary recall as safety is the company’s priority. It expressed regret over the inconvenience caused.

“Honda Malaysia reiterates that all its current selling models are not affected and will continue to uphold transparency and stringent controls to ensure customer safety,” it said.

Of the 24,962 units of the 2012 YM which it had issued the recall, Accord accounted for 2,739 units; Jazz 600; Jazz Hybrid 3,356; City 16,026; Freed 241 and Insight 2,000.

It said as of Friday, there were no crashes or injuries related to this Takata passenger front airbag inflator reported in Malaysia.

Honda Malaysia said it would inform all affected customers via notification letters which would include details of the product update.

It advised these customers who receive these letters to send their vehicles to the nearest Honda authorised dealer for inspection and replacement.

It also assured the owners that all Honda authorised dealers nationwide have a level of the new inflators stock available.

Honda Malaysia said the replacement would be carried out once the parts were ready while the company would bear the cost of parts and labour.
