If you have been fined in Shah Alam, pay up or you can't renew road tax

SHAH ALAM: Traffic offenders who do not pay their summonses for parking illegally in Shah Alam will not be able to renew their road tax.

The blacklisting process was implemented by the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) last year with the cooperation of the Road Transport Department (JPJ).

Those who have accumulated compound notices and have yet to make payment will be listed in the i-Blacklist system.

Shah Alam mayor Datuk Ahmad Zaharin Mohd Saad said they had engaged JPJ as compound notices issued by the council had been taken lightly.

“People don’t care; they just throw out their summonses without paying. Some have even collected up to 10 summonses,” he said.

Ahmad Zaharin added that blacklisting traffic offenders was not to punish them but to educate the public.

“We have rules and if you don’t park your vehicles in designated parking lots, you have to pay the fine.”

With JPJ’s help, MBSA is sure people will notice and start paying their summonses.

Last year, 75 people were blacklisted and 57 warrants of arrest were issued.

At the end of 2015, a total of 279,229 car park compounds, amounting to RM27,897,710 were left unpaid and 1,484 cases had been taken to court.

Those who have not paid their compound notices can visit the council’s website to view the amount owed.

The council advises all who have yet to pay for their compounds to settle them before being blacklisted under the i-Blacklist system.

Summonses can be paid at the main counter in Wisma MBSA, the council’s branch offices around the city, and through Shah Alam On Wheels every Saturday at locations that will be determined by the council.

Alternatively, payment can also be made via online banking.

The public can call MBSA’s Finance Department at 03-5510 5133 (ext 1277/ 1577 / 1540) or the Legal Department (ext 1220 / 1226) or visit www.mbsa.gov.my for details.
