PUTRAJAYA: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) turns 75 this year and a set of commemorative coins has been issued to mark the special occasion.

The coins that come in RM10 and RM1 have images that reflect the main function of the department in regulating the registration and licensing of motor vehicles in the country.

JPJ director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim said the issuance of the commemorative coins is meaningful as the department celebrates its diamond jubilee.

“As we celebrate 75 years of service, we have been mandated to become a department that is efficient, of high integrity and embraces the use of high technology in managing the road transport sector,” he said when launching the commemorative coins.

JPJ began its operation on April 1, 1946, which was then known as Registrar Inspection Motor Vehicle.

"In conjunction with the 75th anniversary celebration, I call on JPJ staff to continue to strive hard and remain committed to serving the people and the country,” he said.

Zailani said under Budget 2022, the department was given approval to procure 20 units of mobile counters and 100 computer-equipped kiosks to facilitate the public in their dealings with the department.
