KUALA LUMPUR: UMW Toyota Motor presented a range of concept vehicles and its latest models at the KL International Motor Show 2018 (KLIMS 2018), with the highlight being the new Camry.

Completely redesigned for the eigth generation, it will be available in the 2.5V variant and priced at RM189.900 (with SST, without insurance) and is covered by a five-year unlimited mileage warranty. Deliveries will commence in December.

The Camry will be imported as a fully imported model from Thailand.

Powering the Camry is a 2AR-FE petrol engine - a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder DOHC all-aluminium unit with 16 valves managed by Dual VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence on intake and exhaust sides). Maximum power output is 184 PS at 6,000rpm and 235Nm at 4,100rpm.

A six-speed ECT automatic transmission with optimised gear ratios for smoother overall performance and stronger acceleration is fitted as standard.

No hybrid variant will be available.

Introducing the new Camry to the media, UMW Toyota Motor president K. Ravindran said the model is another example of how Toyota is making ever better cars. "For the Malaysian market, we will be offering only the Camry 2.5V."

The new Camry is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense that includes Pre-collision System, Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) as well as Automatic High Beam (AHB).

During the Camry's unveiling, the company also introduced the new Vios that is said to provide 'value' like never before.

The new Vios, available in three versions sporting the same 1.5-litre engine as before (107 PS/140 Nm), is now available for pre-order from RM77,200. It comes with a CVT. It is scheduled to appear in showrooms by March next year in a choice of five body colours.

The new Vios is longer and wider than before and is derived from the current Yaris hatch for the Asean market. Front and rear see changes with the cabin updated along with a steering wheel taken from the Corolla Altis.

While the exterior of the Vios is mostly new, it is actually built on the previous generation model's platform. In terms of dimensions, the new Vios is 5 mm longer (4,415 mm) and 30 mm wider (1,730 mm) than the outgoing model, while maintaining the same height (1,475 mm) and wheelbase (2,550 mm).

Under the hood lies the same familiar 1.5-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol engine as the outgoing model, outputting 107 PS and 140 Nm. This engine is mated to a CVT-type automatic that sends power to the front wheels.

Among the standard kit are seven airbags, Hill-start Assist Control and automatic air-conditioning. Depending on variant, additional kit includes blind spot detection, panoramic camera, dashcam, land departure warning and paddle shifters.
