KUALA LUMPUR: The new trophy for the 2015 Petronas Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix in Sepang from March 27-29 was unveiled last night.
The trophy has a red pewter nestled within its fold expressing the passion of the drivers jostling for the winning position on the circuit.
Tan Sri Mokhzani Tun Mahathir, the chairman of the Sepang International Circuit (SIC), said he was fascinated and impressed with the new trophy.
“It is the eighth trophy designed for the event by the Royal Selangor Pewter since the Malaysian Formula One Grand Prix was inaugurated in 1999,” said Mokhzani.
“After 17 years, we firmly believe that many Malaysians look forward to the race. We are expecting more than 120,000 fans to turn up to watch the three-day event under the theme ‘Experience F1 Like Never Before’,” added Mokhzani.
He said this year’s race day will begin early at 3pm to avoid the rain in the late afternoon.
“We hope more women and children will watch the race as we have lined-up a series of exciting and entertaining activities. We will invite American rock singer and songwriter Lenny Kravitz to entertain the spectators.
“We will also have a charity gala on the evening of March 26 at the Plenary Hall KL Convention Centre to raise funds for charity Bidara,” said Mokhzani.
