Mazzanti hypercar to make Turin debut

TURIN: The Turin motorshow is usually a low-key affair but this year it will play host to the most powerful street-legal car ever built in Italy.

Called the Mazzanti Evantra Millecavalli, its makers promise that it will have a total output of 1,000hp and that all of that power will come from a heavily turbocharged V8 powerplant.

Mazzanti is already an established boutique supercar builder. It started out in business 15 years ago and its standard Evantra model, on which the new monstrous Millecavalli is based, is hand-built to order and production limited to five examples a year. The standard car has 715hp on tap and is capable of going from 0-100kph in 3 seconds.

However, thanks to twin turbochargers, the Millecavalli will, according to company founder Luca Mazzanti, manage the 0-100kph dash in 2.7 seconds and will hit a top speed of 400kph, that's 250mph and into Bugatti - never mind Ferrari LaFerrari - territory.

"In order to create this extreme Hypercar, we applied technologies coming from motorsport that no one else has ever used on a street-legal car before," said Luca Mazzanti.

These include active aerodynmaics to direct air over the rear wing plus larger inlets for cooling and even a roof-mounted airscoop.

In theory, getting a car to travel well in excess of 300kph is not that difficult, but getting a car to travel that fast while remaining stable and still feeling like a quality, premium product is no simple feat.

"When the performance is so important, nothing is left to chance, but each element is the result of the meticulous work of people with great expertise and a true passion," said Mazzanti.

The car will be limited to just 25 completely hand-built examples and while the company has revealed nothing regarding the hypercar's price tag it is expected to cost over €1 million making it a direct competitor with Pagani and Koenigsegg.

The 2016 Turin motorshow runs from June 8-12.
