Mercedes announces pricing and specs of S-Class Cabriolet

STUTTGART: If you can't wait to go and buy the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class Cabriolet, you now know how much money you'll have to find for one as the German luxury automaker has just announced pricing for Britain.

The most "affordable" version, the S 560 AMG Line, will be priced at £115,910 (RM630,000), the Mercedes-AMG 63 version will cost from £140,610 (RM765,000), and the top of the range AMG S 65 is priced at £197,510 (a little over RM1mil).

That's obviously a lot of money, but this is also an awful lot of car and is described by the manufacturer as "the epitome of luxury motoring, mixing effortless performance with impressive refinement and a sumptuous interior."

In line with what seems to be the trend at the moment, Mercedes has shunned the folding hardtop that used to be a favourite option for such cars until quite recently.

Instead, the S-Class Cabriolet comes equipped with a well-insulated multi-layer folding soft-top, which should make the new model suitable for all markets and folds away electrically in less than 20 seconds.

As for what's going on under the hood of the S 560, which is the replacement for the outgoing S 500, Mercedes has adopted a new 4.0-litre bi-turbo V-8 producing 469hp and 700Nm of torque, mated to a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The AMG S 63 has a similar unit, but this time it's a hand-built version tuned to 612hp and 900 Nm. Finally, the incredible S 65 boasts a hand-built 6.0-litre V-8 that puts out 630 hp and 1,000Nm of torque.

Obviously, all three versions of the new S-Class Cabriolet come packed with standard features and equipment, but one of the more exciting available options is the Driving Assistance package, which costs £2,580 (RM14,000) for the S 560 but is standard with the other two models.

It includes a number of features that have come from autonomous drive development, such as Active Distance Assist Distronic, Active Steering Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, Active Braking Assist and Evasive Steering Assist.
