PUCHONG: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia (MBM) engaged the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel with its High Voltage Vehicle Introduction Training course.

This first-of-its-kind course covered technical and practical aspects on how to handle emergencies involving a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) and a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

The Mercedes-Benz S400h, C350e and E350e were on hand and was held at the company’s training academy in Puchong, Selangor, where 40 Bomba personnel attended.

The training was guided by six key learning pillars, which starts by ensuring that Bomba personnel are able to describe the types of high voltage systems available in motor vehicles; identify high voltage components located in HEVs and PHEVs; and describe the Mercedes-Benz Post Safe features in HEVs and PHEVs to name a few.

The participants must not only be able to describe the different HV operating modes, but also know how to utilise the Mercedes-Benz Rescue Assist App by locating and subsequently scanning the QR code to reveal the specific vehicle’s information before safety handling procedures can be applied.

“Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has been, and continues to be, a strong supporter of the nation’s ambitions of becoming an EEV hub. Today is another example of our commitment in action. We are very happy for this opportunity to work with our national heroes from Bomba to put in place a crucial support system, thus creating a conducive ecosystem for EEVs and drivers,” said MBM president and CEO Dr Claus Weidner.

In addition, MBM also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Malaysia Automotive Institute (MAI), which now sees the Mercedes-Benz Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Programme being accredited by MAI for the common goal of improved sustainable talent development.
