Moose not allowed to lick cars in Canada

JASPER: If you're in Alberta, Canada, there are electronic road signs warning drivers not to let moose lick their cars.

The new sign on Jasper National Park's Maligne Lake Road has warned motorists in French and English "DO NOT LET MOOSE LICK YOUR CAR."

Parks Canada installed the sign there as moose are a frequent sight on the road, with motorists typically  encountering a dozen moose between Maligne and Medicine Lakes according to a report.

The reason for the moose-licking habit stems from road salt.

"I hate to say it, but this road salt is kind of like (crack to moose)," explained Joe Urie, the owner of the Jasper Tour Company, in an interview with the CBC.

Moose lick the salt off of the tarmac, but they lick it off of a car's body panels too, so they will approach motorists.

It's a problem that's becoming increasingly common as the moose population grows.

As such, motorists are no longer allowed to leave their car if they encounter wildlife in Jasper National Park.

So if you don't want the moose to lick your car, just scare it by honking the horn of your car.
