MUNICH: BMW has been busy teasing the world about its upcoming new G30 5 Series over the past few months. But the wait will be over this week.

It has just declared on its Facebook page that the new model would be unveiled on Oct 13.

And over on the BMW Deutschland YouTube channel, it has posted up three teaser videos on the new 5 Series, with glimpses of sections of the car.  The latest clip (see below) shows that the car will come with partial autonomous technology.

In the course of the 5 Series development, BMW had invited a select number of motoring writers to test-drive the prototypes and to offer feedback to the engineers.

The exterior styling of the G30 is expected to be evolutionary and the interior will sport a new dashboard. The seventh generation 5 Series will address a key point that the current F10 5 Series is one of the heaviest in its segment.

Lessons learnt have been applied to the G30, which will be lightened for improved ride and performance. An obvious way to shed meaningful weight in the car is to use more aluminium and carbon fibre parts as in the 7 Series.

The G30 will come in sedan, wagon and GT body styles. Aside from the usual petrol and diesel engines on offer, BMW will introduce a plug-in hybrid version as well.

BMW is also testing out the G30-based M5, which is expected to roll out by early 2018, round about the same time the Z5 roadster will be introduced. The M5 will only be equipped with an automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is an option.

Also, actor Clive Owen is back battling villains while driving what is purportedly the new 5 Series in the The Escape, a short film set to air on Oct 23 that will signal the revival of the BMW Short Film series. All will be revealed. come Oct 23.
