KUALA LUMPUR: The new Ford Mondeo is here,  featuring a sport coupe profile with low roofline, and a side-profile sculpted to portray visual lightness.

Priced at RM198,000 on-the-road (RM203,771 with insurance) in Peninsular Malaysia, the new Mondeo is available in four stylish colours – Frozen White, Ruby Red, Panther Black and Tectonic Silver.

The elegant and technical front end design features Ford’s prominent trapezoidal grille, a power-dome bonnet and adaptive, slim-line, laser-cut headlamp design.

Inside, a sporty, cockpit-like cabin, reinforced with paddle shifters, boasts a symmetrical design accessible to both the driver and front seat passenger.

The car is powered by Ford’s 2.0L EcoBoost engine, delivering 240 PS and 345 Nm of torque. Power to the wheels is relayed by a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission.

The combination of turbocharging, direct fuel injection and twin independent variable camshaft timing (Ti-VCT) in Ford’s EcoBoost
engine delivers fuel economy of 8l/100km.

The new Mondeo is equipped with a comprehensive safety package, which helped it achieve a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

Ford’s Lane Keeping Aid detects if the driver appears to be unintentionally drifting out of their lane by monitoring road markings, alerting them by vibrating the steering wheel. If lane departure continues, this advanced system will direct the driver back into the correct lane by applying steering torque unless the indicator is switched on.

The new Mondeo also comes with a rear view camera which enables the driver to see what is behind them, while the beep of the rear parking sensors tells how close the driver is. The system automatically turns down the music so the driver can clearly hear the beeps.

Also onboard is Ford’s MyKey
system which allows the programming of various features, such as setting the maximum speed limit, a seatbelt reminder and the maximum volume of the audio system.

The SYNC 2 connectivity system boasts a larger, eight-inch colour touchscreen to operate phone, entertainment and climate control using voice command.  The advanced technology also extends to its lighting, which combines full-LED headlamps with adaptive front lighting to enhance the driver’s view of his surroundings.

Depending on the vehicle’s speed, steering angle and distance to an object in front, this system improves visibility by assessing the ambient light surrounding the vehicle.

Adaptive cruise control is standard, making for a smarter and safer drive.

The Ford Extended Service Plan (ESP) is a three-year or 60,000km maintenance programme that covers parts and labour for free.

Ford’s ESP also covers free replacements for selected wear-and-tear items, including spark plugs, shock absorbers, engine belts, brake pads and wiper blades.
