GEORGE TOWN: Parking fees will not be imposed until the Penang Smart Parking (PSP) system is up and running again without any glitches, says state local government committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo.

He said that the PSP system which went offline on Tuesday was supposed to be working by 11am today.

However, he said he was told it was still unstable.

“The Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is monitoring the situation to ensure the technical glitch is rectified," said Jagdeep at a press conference in Komtar today.

"As such no parking fees have been charged since the system went down yesterday.

The status quo remains for now, and if it is not repaired later today, the operator will issue another statement, ” he added.

On the monetary loss suffered, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that it was still too early to gauge.

"We will have a clear picture when the system is up again," said Chow, who was also at the same press conference.

Motorists took to Facebook after failing to log in to their PSP account. PSP operators Heitech Padu clarified on their Facebook later that there was a service glitch and it was being fixed.
