NY debuts for all-new Subaru Crosstrek and Outback

NEW YORK: Subaru is going big at this year's 2017 New York International Auto Show with two reveals. As well as the revised version of the ever-popular Outback making its debut at the show, the Japanese automaker will also be unveiling the redesigned Crosstrek, which represents a completely new interior and exterior design language for the brand.

The Crosstrek is built on Subaru's Global Platform, which is designed to offer improved performance, safety, capability and comfort. The Crosstrek is designed to be as fun to drive as it is practical, and it looks to combine Subaru's bold new look with a robust chassis so it's as capable off-road as it is driving in the city.

The new design language, known as "Dynamic x Solid," and the new Crosstrek will be the second of the company's vehicles built in the new style. Among the technical wizardry to be found on the car is Active Torque Vectoring Active, which we first saw on the performance WRX and WRX STI models. The system is designed to reduce understeer so the vehicle stays on the driver's intended cornering vector, and it will now be standard on all three Crosstrek trim levels of base, Premium and Limited.

A revised version of the FB 2.0-litre four-cylinder Boxer engine will power the new Crosstrek, with the powerplant now using direct fuel injection and other enhancements for even better performance. The 2.0-litre is mated to a standard six-speed manual transmission or an available Lineartronic CVT in base and Premium trims, while the Limited gets the CVT featuring a seven-speed manual mode function with steering wheel paddle shifters as standard.

The new Outback will be arriving in showrooms this summer. It features revised front and rear styling along with a number of significant upgrades intended to make it more comfortable and safer than the outgoing model, and its multimedia capabilities will also be enhanced for the new model year.
