PETALING JAYA: Those who need to travel interstate or inter-district for permitted economic activities do not need police approval but must have an approval letter from the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti) and either a letter from their employer, or their worker’s tag.
The ministry's clarification comes at the start of the ban on all interstate and inter-district travel without police approval from May 10 to June 6 in an effort to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“For your information, inter-district/state travel for work purposes does not require a letter from the police.
“A letter from Miti and an employers' letter OR workers pass (two items) are sufficient.
“The Miti letter does not need to have the police approval stamp, ” the ministry said in a May 9 tweet just before the start of the travel restrictions.
Miti also noted that it has informed the police and National Security Council (MKN) of the work travel criteria.
Its tweet was accompanied by an eight-point list of activities that were permissible subject to approval from the ministry or relevant agencies.
Among them was inter-district and interstate travel for work purposes for permissible economic activities.
On Wednesday (May 5), Miti noted that the government agreed to allow all economic sectors, including the manufacturing sector, to operate except for activities in the “negative list” of general SOPs of the movement control order (MCO).
“These SOPs can be accessed on the National Security Council website at www.mkn.gov.my.
“Companies must adhere to the SOPs and also abide by the work-from-home rulings, which is 30% of the management can be present in office, while the attendance of the supporting staff will be decided by employers, ” Miti said in a statement.
