KUALA LUMPUR: The volunteerism movement of Petron employees, Volunteerism-In-Action (VIA) came to the aid of the Desa Mentari Seva community centre by providing it with recreational and educational item.

The centre in Petaling Jaya, which helps more than 200 children, received furniture, laptops, encyclopaedia, storybooks, and magazines as well as yoga mats, educational board games and a foosball table to make it more functional and conducive to learning particularly during this pandemic.

“We are truly grateful and happy to receive the contributions from Petron. We hope this contribution will help us bring in more children to our centre. Apart from keeping them safe, these children will now be more engaged at our centre with the items we received,” said centre manager Kumar.

Petron Malaysia employees also donated bookstore vouchers for the students.

Desa Mentari Seva Centre serves more than 200 children from B40 families who often spend time at the centre to unwind and expand their horizons.

Petron Malaysia corporate affairs manager Wan Adibah Azian Mahmood said the company was happy to do its part to help Desa Mentari Seva Centre achieve its goals for its beneficiaries.

"Through the Petron VIA programme, we worked hand in hand with Desa Mentari Seva Centre to understand its needs and try our best to fulfil them and hope that our contributions will help improve the centre further,” she said.

Championed by its employees, Petron VIA is an integral part of Petron Malaysia’s sustainability development programme.

Earlier this year, Petron VIA together with the company’s network of service station dealers brought festive cheer during the Chinese New Year celebration at Puchong old folks home.

They also assembled close to 40,000 face-shields for frontliners during the early part of the pandemic for nationwide distribution.
