PETALING JAYA: Members of the public are urged to download the MyPublicInfoBanjir mobile app to get up-to-date info on the latest flood situation to help plan their journey during the monsoon season.

The app provides real-time updates of water levels at rivers and dams in every state as well as information about rainfall in the area. An alert or warning will be indicated at the specific area if the water level is rising or receding.

Users can also key in certain points of interest for flood information or weather alert and access a list of emergency contacts for the rescue and civil defence force.

Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) secretary-general Datuk Seri Ir Dr Zaini Ujang said the app picks up data from 1,500 areas nationwide through the placement of hydrological telemetry stations.

“We want the public to use the app as it provides very specific data related to floods,” he said in a Bernama report, adding that such information would be useful when planning balik kampung trips or inter-state travel.

He said more hydrological telemetry stations will be installed to enable data collection about flood in more localities, specifically in rural areas. MyPublicInfoBanjir was launched on Nov 12, 2020.

The MyPublicInfoBanjir app is available on both the Google and Apple app stores.

Alternatively, users can also head to the official MyPublicInfoBanjir website to get the latest flood information, weather alerts as well as tips on what to do when caught in a flood situation.
