PETALING JAYA: PLUS Malaysia Bhd confirms that the Transport Ministry has banned all heavy vehicles from highways today and tomorrow

"We hope this will ease traffic congestion, especially in uphill areas," said PLUS chief operating officer Zakaria Ahmad Zabidi in a statement today.

He said traffic from the north towards Kuala Lumpur was slow-moving along the Seberang Perai stretch, from Taiping to Changkat Jering and on the uphill stretch at the Menora Tunnel heading to Ipoh.

Zakaria added that traffic was also slow along the Gua Tempurung uphill strecth, from Tapah to Sungkai and from Bukit Tagar to Sungai Buaya.

PLUS also advised highway users to take advantage of rest and service areas and lay-bys to take two-hourly intermittent breaks to freshen up.

Zakaria emphasised the importance of safe riding for motorcyclists on their way home, as the death toll of motorcyclists along PLUS highways was alarmingly high compared to those in four-wheel vehicles.
