PLUS expects 1.6 million vehicles on highways for CNY peak days

SUNGAI BULOH: The number of vehicles on PLUS highways is expected to increase significantly to 1.6 million daily on four peak days in conjunction with the Chinese New Year holidays.

PLUS Malaysia Bhd chairman Datuk Mohamad Nasir Ab Latif said the days are Jan 28, Jan 29, Feb 2 and Feb 5.

"We expect an increase of 17.4% of vehicles on the road over normal days," he said in his speech at the launch of the Ops Selamat Lunar New Year edition today.

PLUS traffic alerts will be issued through the @PLUSTrafik Twitter handle which has about 727,000 followers, he added.

"We will also put up the latest traffic information on electronic signage at strategic locations along the highways to enable road users to plan their journey," he said.

Mohamad Nasir said PLUS will also issue travel schedule advisories from Jan 28 until Feb 6 to help road users avoid being stuck in congestion.

"We urge everyone to plan their respective journeys based on the travel advisories. We hope more people will abide by the advisories as it will lead to much smoother traffic," he added.

On Ops Selamat, Mohamad Nasir said PLUS is grateful for its strategic partnership with the police in advocating road safety.

"We hope the latest operation will spur the public to prioritise safety on the road," he said.
