SUBANG JAYA: Proton has delivered a unit of its award-winning X70 to a finance ministry official, paving the way for more government fleet orders from 2020.

The SUV is to be used by the statutory bodies division secretary for the strategic management division Datuk Shahrol Anuwar Sarman.

At present, Proton has over 500 confirmed orders for the X70 and over 400 having already been delivered. The popular SUV is also set to become one of the official vehicles for government officers at the super scale grade.

Earlier in December, it was announced that a fleet of X70s would be used to support the year-long Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation 2020 forum.

Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong said he expects more government departments would order the X70 from 2020.

“Proton will continue to work closely with service providers such as Spanco to ensure we can support the need for official vehicles by public sector agencies and government departments. As a Malaysian automotive brand, we want to continue to show our support for the country and play a role in nation-building,” said Dr Li.

Present at the handover ceremony were Spanco operations head Shaheeran Jalalludin, Proton group engineering director Hazrin Fazail Haroon and Proton corporate sales director Fazli Hisham Shukor.
