Proton gets new chairman

SUBANG JAYA: Proton has announced the appointment of Datuk Sri Syed Faisal Albar as non-executive chairman effective from today. He will also be chairman to the car maker's subsidiary Lotus.

He succeeds Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad who stepped down from Proton on March 31.

Prior to this appointment, Syed Faisal was the group managing director of DRB-Hicom Bhd.

Proton said in a statement today that Syed Faisal’s experience and track record would be critical in helping it to recover and return to profitability.

Syed Faisal started his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers and was the chief executive officer of The New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad from 2003 to 2008. Other roles he has assumed over the years were group managing director of Pos Malaysia Bhd, executive director of Konsortium Logistik Bhd, CEO of Malakoff Corporation Bhd and CEO of Gas Malaysia Bhd.
