Red Bull Racing F1 team to break up with Nissan and Infiniti

HONG KONG: Nissan, Infiniti and the Red Bull Racing Formula One team will disband their partnership at the end of December this year.

Infiniti said in a statement that Red Bull Racing will discontinue the commercial partnership with the car maker at the end of the 2015 season, one year earlier than originally planned. With the termination of the agreement,  Nissan will also stop supplying light commercial vans to Red Bull Racing.

The underperformance of the V6 turbo hybrid power unit supplied by Renault has been a prickly point with the F1 team.

Infiniti would be joining Renault since the latter announced last week that it would acquire Lotus and come back as a full works team.

The partnership between Infiniti, Nissan and Red Bull Racing has been one of the most successful ones in recent years.

The team won four consecutive Formula One constructor and driver world championship titles between 2010 and 2013. Infiniti and Red Bull Racing started their commercial partnership in 2011 before Infiniti became the title sponsor of the team in 2013.
